Windows Under Soffit: Moulding Design Options

We have recently being seeing this situation a lot, especially with older homes and if you're an owner in this situation, you'll want to read this post to explore your options.

The issue is your windows are placed directly of your soffit. This can be a challenging situation as there isn't much room to play with. But with the help of our design team and 3D Modelling expert, it's no longer an issue, but a solution.

OPTION 1 - Crown with Straight Edge
In our opinion, this is the easiest solution as the crown moulding will butt right up to the edge of your window with a vertical trim placed along the sides. A sill is used on the bottom to complete the design.

OPTION 2 - Crown & Flat with Return
We think this is the best option since it does require more work on the part of the contractor but aesthetically makes the most sense.

A flat moulding is set across the roofline and another moulding (typically a crown) is placed over top of it, complete with a return. This is the aesthetic difference from Option 1 that will set the design apart. And as in Option 1, vertical window edging and sill will complete the design.

OPTION 3 - Sill Only
We created this option for budgetary concerns, it requires less moulding but also detracts from the overall curb appeal of your home.

Simply, only a sill is used at the bottom of the window, leaving the top and sides alone.
